The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt departed San Diego on Sunday bound for the Middle East to relieve another vessel already deployed in the region, The Hill reported on Monday.
This nuclear-powered, Nimitz-class ship will replace the USS George Washington, which was sent last month to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility.
The George Washington had, in turn, replaced the USS Abraham Lincoln, a rotation that drew criticism from Democratic lawmakers and sailors' families due to harsh conditions on board and the deterioration of the crew's mental health.
