Europe risks a gas price crisis, the British press warns

The continent faces the threat of a drastic surge in energy bills this winter, the press warns.

Experts explain that the primary cause of this vulnerability is the war launched by the US and Israel against Iran, which has paralyzed the Strait of Hormuz. Consequently, the benchmark gas price in Europe is nearing four-year highs, hovering around 73 euros (nearly 79 dollars) per megawatt-hour.

At the same time, European gas storage levels stand at 66.6% of capacity—a figure considerably lower than the historical average of 80% typical for this time of year—marking the lowest pre-winter storage level recorded since 2009.
