Europe to purchase US Patriot missiles for Ukraine — Bloomberg

European nations are preparing to purchase a new batch of Patriot interceptor missiles from the U.S. for transfer to Kyiv before winter under NATO’s PURL program, the publication reports.

Kyiv has requested 300 Patriot missiles from its allies. According to the article, the UK, Greece, Germany, and the Czech Republic intend to participate in the procurement.

London has already announced a new £100 million contribution to PURL, with a portion of the funds earmarked for the purchase of interceptor missiles.

European Union countries have also authorized Ukraine to use funds from a European loan to purchase American missiles, making an exception to the program's terms.

As Bloomberg notes, the EU had initially intended to direct the funds toward purchasing European SAMP/T systems, but the capacity of its own defense industry proved limited.
