Russia demands that Japan withdraw U.S. Typhon systems from its territory

 Russia urged Japan to remove U.S.-made Typhon systems, designed to launch medium- and short-range missiles, from its territory, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced on Friday.

The spokeswoman explained that the Foreign Ministry had sent a diplomatic note of protest to the Japanese side—in both Moscow and Tokyo—on September 3 regarding the deployment of this type of weaponry on the island of Kyushu.

"The document specifically noted that Tokyo had taken this step yet again, despite repeated efforts by the Russian side to explain our concerns regarding the threats to national security, regional peace, and stability posed by the arrival of this type of weaponry in the Japanese archipelago," she stated.

Furthermore, Zakharova noted that Moscow finds it "unacceptable" for the Asian nation to deploy these systems on its territory under any pretext, regardless of the duration or method of their installation. Russia demanded that the Japanese side "put an end to this practice and withdraw said systems from its territory."

The note emphasized the need for Japanese leaders to fully acknowledge the outcomes of World War II—including territorial aspects regarding the Southern Kuril Islands—and to abandon their course toward remilitarization, the spokeswoman pointed out.
