Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are pressuring the Trump administration to maintain economic pressure on Iran and to reject any concessions that would ease sanctions or the U.S. Navy's naval blockade, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Saudi Arabia, in particular, is facing new obstacles in getting its oil to market after Houthi forces in Yemen began squeezing the Kingdom's shipments through the Red Sea.
This pressure from the Gulf adds to a series of other hurdles standing in the way of an agreement.
Currently, Iran aims to return to conditions identified in June’s Memorandum of Understanding, which promised sanctions relief, access to Iranian frozen assets, and an administrative role in the Strait of Hormuz.
