A surface-to-air missile system equipped with an infrared guidance channel (bearing a strong resemblance to an Iranian model) locked onto the aircraft and shot it down.
Houthi forces located the crash site early in the morning; the pilot's fate remains unknown.
As of the early 2010s, the cost of an F-15SA reached $136 million.
