France has conducted the first test launch of an M51.3 strategic ballistic missile from a nuclear-powered submarine, the country's Ministry of Defense reports.
The test launch took place on October 6. The missile did not carry a nuclear warhead, and its flight was tracked by systems at the test center of France's Directorate General of Armament.
The missile landed in the North Atlantic, several hundred kilometers off the coast.
The military department noted that the test was conducted in compliance with France's international obligations.
