The chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces has said that they control the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Tasnim news agency.
It said Major General Ali Abdollahi has visited forces stationed on the Iranian side of the waterway.
Contrary to “propaganda” by US leaders, Iran’s army and naval forces “have complete control and oversight of the coasts of the Persian Gulf, the islands and the Strait of Hormuz”, he said.
“This strategic waterway is completely closed,” adding that no vessel is allowed to transit “outside of Iranian regulations”.
CENTCOM said on Sunday that US forces have assisted over 3,000 merchant vessels in navigating the strategic chokepoint over the past six months.
