Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says a third oil tanker has hit a sea mine and caught fire after attempting to use what Tehran considers an “unauthorised route”.
In a statement carried by state broadcaster IRIB, the IRGC Navy said the shuttle tanker was carrying about 750,000 barrels of crude oil when it ignored warnings and attempted to pass through the restricted route on Sunday afternoon.
The vessel then hit a sea mine, causing an explosion and a major fire, according to the IRGC.
