The European Commission will no longer propose using frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine.
This was stated by the Prime Minister of Belgium, according to The Brussels Times.
Bart De Wever says he is certain of this, noting that the topic was discussed at an EU summit. However, he does not rule out the possibility that some new European leaders might attempt to reopen the debate. According to him, these individuals were not part of last year’s discussions and are now putting forward arguments that he had previously managed to shut down.
According to him, he warned his colleagues that even public statements in favor of confiscation could carry legal consequences.
Previously, the politician personally opposed the transfer of Russian assets to Kyiv and urged the European Union to normalize relations with Moscow in order to gain access to cheap energy sources.
