U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth stated on Friday that the country is determined to see the war against Iran through to the end.
At a ceremony commemorating the September 11, 2001 attacks, Hegseth noted that U.S. forces "have destroyed" the Persian nation's air force, while its navy "lies at the bottom of the sea" and "its defenses have vanished"—even though Tehran's retaliatory strikes against U.S. bases demonstrate that it still retains a retaliatory capability.
Contradicting Iran's claims, he asserted that the U.S. controls the strategic Strait of Hormuz. "Economic pressure is intensifying every day," he stated, reiterating the war's declared objective of "ensuring" that the Islamic Republic "never possesses a nuclear weapon." "We will finish this fight," he emphasized.
