This was stated by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
The ministry noted that the Indian government has taken note of the decision by U.S. lawmakers and will monitor further developments.
Despite the threat of harsh measures against countries that are key buyers of Russian oil and gas, India will act independently, doing as it deems necessary, the Indian foreign ministry warned.
"As previously stated on numerous occasions, India remains firmly committed to ensuring the energy security of its 1.4 billion citizens. It will continue to do so by diversifying supply sources and based on evolving market conditions," the statement said.
The Foreign Ministry noted that, in recent months, Indian authorities have conveyed their position during high-level talks with U.S. officials.
