U.S. President Donald Trump has called on SpaceX founder Elon Musk to lift restrictions on the use of the Starshield satellite communication system, designed for military purposes, in Ukraine.
This was reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing its own sources.
According to the publication, Trump called Musk, and shortly after that conversation, the systems began to function—though their speed was not fully restored.
At present, there are conflicting reports regarding the operation of Starlink in Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that connection speeds for Ukrainian units have not yet been fully restored, adding: "We are working on resolving this issue."
It was reported yesterday that Musk had ordered a limit on the operating speed of the military version of the Starlink satellite system used by Ukraine. As a result, some of the strike and interceptor drones that rely on the system have effectively ceased to be able to carry out their missions.
As calculated by The New York Times, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost dozens of drones with a total value of at least $1 million on October 21, following the introduction of restrictions on the operation of Starshield within the country.
