U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance is seeking to forge a new alliance with Republicans and voters who have become disenchanted with Donald Trump, with an eye toward the 2028 elections, according to Fox News, which cites sources familiar with discussions that took place following the election.
On Wednesday morning—in the wake of a stinging Republican defeat in the midterm elections—Vance took the lead in the administration’s political messaging. In doing so, he distanced himself from Trump on issues of foreign policy and the U.S. relationship with Israel, the outlet reports.
In a post on X on November 4, the vice president-elect outlined four issues that the Trump administration would need to address to regain the trust of its supporters: ending the war, focusing on the cost of living/inflation, putting the U.S. first, and changing Washington’s relationship with Israel.
Furthermore, Vance acknowledges that the primary cause of the Republican electoral defeat was the war involving Iran. "The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night," he added in the text, clarifying that it was not due to issues with voter turnout.
