Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has rejected claims by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas that Iran was interfering in the Yemen conflict, accusing the bloc of contributing to human rights violations through sanctions and blockades, IRNA news agency is reporting.
“We call on all actors, including Iran to cease all military support to the Houthis, in violation of several United Nations Security Council resolutions,” the EU statement said.
Baghaei, in a statement, also denied that Iranian military experts were operating in Yemen, describing the allegations as fabricated and intended to mislead public opinion.
The spokesperson said Yemenis had the capability and determination to defend their sovereignty without foreign assistance.
He added that peace required respecting Yemeni self-determination and pursuing dialogue based on the previously agreed Saudi-Yemeni roadmap, adding that Tehran was ready to assist diplomatic efforts.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei rejected European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas’ claims that Tehran was interfering in the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen, according to a statement by the Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the statement, Baghaei "strongly rejected claims about the presence of Iranian military advisers in Yemen." The diplomat said such reports were being circulated to "conceal facts and divert public attention." He added that the Yemeni people had "the necessary capabilities, experience, courage and will to defend their sovereignty and human dignity" and did not need anyone’s interference. In Baghaei’s assessment, the European Union, by participating in sanctions and the economic blockade of Yemen, "is itself complicit in gross human rights violations" in the country.
