US Secretary of State Marco Rubio demanded that the Iranian delegation to the UN General Assembly leave the country immediately after negotiations reached an impasse, Axios reports, citing a US official and a second source familiar with the situation.
As the publication notes, this move represented a highly unusual diplomatic step and exposed the deep mistrust between the two countries amidst fruitless attempts to reach an agreement to end the war.
The Iranian delegation left New York according to the original schedule, Iran's Permanent Mission to the UN reported.
Earlier, Axios reported that Marco Rubio had demanded the Iranian delegation leave the country after bilateral settlement talks reached an impasse.
