Trump has said conversations on a US diesel export ban take place “every day” as diesel prices have hit record highs.
Energy analysts have warned that an export ban could have unintended consequences, potentially pushing up fuel prices in the US and abroad.
Trump said an export ban would “have a negative impact on gasoline” prices but would lower diesel costs.
He said Russia’s war in Ukraine is the main cause of rising diesel prices, but Energy Secretary Chris Wright said disruptions were more widespread due to the war on Iran and broader interruptions.
